Rhubarb Hospitality Collection Joins Broad Street Love in Service to the Community
Last week, Rhubarb Hospitality Collection had the privilege of partnering with Broad Street Love, an extraordinary Philadelphia nonprofit dedicated to offering dignity, compassion, and daily support to neighbors experiencing deep poverty. We were honored to serve a our signature Salt-Baked Beets from Leo — at a meal service attended by community leaders, volunteers.
But what made this day especially meaningful for our team was the presence of Chef Chris Cryer, who personally prepared and served the dishes alongside Broad Street Love’s remarkable staff and volunteers.
A Chef Serving His Own Community
Chef Chris isn’t simply a culinary leader within Rhubarb Hospitality Collection — he’s a resident of the very neighborhood Broad Street Love serves. His commitment to this volunteer effort comes from a place of deep personal connection.
He arrived early, rolled up his sleeves, and worked shoulder-to-shoulder with volunteers to prepare and plate every Salt-Baked Beet we served that day. For Chef Chris, it wasn’t about showcasing technique or elevating flavors — it was about showing love, respect, and hospitality to his community.
A Visit from Senator Nikil Saval
We were also grateful to have Pennsylvania State Senator Nikil Saval join the event and speak about the importance of organizations like Broad Street Love in supporting Philadelphia’s most vulnerable neighbors. His presence underscored the power of community-driven care and the essential role that Radical Hospitality plays in addressing hunger, housing insecurity, and dignity for all. Senator Saval’s support added meaningful recognition to the work being done every day on Broad Street, and we were honored to serve alongside him.
